Yarn of the month vl. 1

My awesome brother & sister in laws got me a yarn of the month subscription!

I got 2 yarn samples! I decided at least for these 2 to try seed stitch. I may not do all the squares that way but i like the looks of it so far! Good purse knitting! Assuming someday it will be part of a blanket!

Roadtrip!

Over Memorial Day weekend we drove to my in-laws, about 4 hours away. I got some knitting done on the green socks and also some cross stitching done over the weekend. Not sure why i did not do more of the letters before

I think the letters will really help me figure out the cat placement. Adding the grid has helped me not be so lost on the project. It may take a while but i feel like i will actually finish this project someday. 

Here is my Hitchhiker. I need to weave in ends and maybe block it. I am happy with it! It was really fun process knitting, simple but you still have to pay attention on what row you were on. 

I bought yarn for a shawl for my mom. I have been listening to the knitting pipeline podcast for years. I finally checked out quince & co yarns. I love that they are made in the USA. Also i wanted to knit something for my mom. I decided to go with piper's journey by paula from knitting pipeline. Hopefully i can start on that soon. http://quinceandco.com/products/pipers-journey

Here is the yarn. The color is glacier. So excited! Happy to splurge on USA yarn for a special project. 

Another thing i am working on for band postcards. My husbands band just finished their 2nd cd and the special package includes demos, their 1st cd and some post cards. (Maybe something else i am forgetting) so i need to make 2 postcard designs. This is one but i need to finish and print it. 

Busy times!! Planted part of the garden today because we finally got soil! Yay!

This week.

Just wanted to share what I have been working on. Making more curtains and I even made curtain ties for the little bedrooms.  I had just enough fabric. 

I need to hem our bedroom curtains, and hem sheers I got at Ikea for our sliding glass door. They had tabs and so I removed them and will use that end to fold up for the bottom hem. 

Started some socks. A very basic pattern. The yarn is Moonshadow colorway by Black Trillium Fibers. I was not sure if I had enough yardage, so yesterday I bought some basic black yarn to do heels & toes. I also bought the Fish Lips Kiss heel pattern on Ravelry for $1 because I have heard so much about that pattern and would like to try it. I currently have 1 cuff all the way done and am almost done with the 2nd cuff. I am taking turns working on both so hopefully i will not run out of yarn. Or at least will run out at the same spot.

Here is some other yarn. I do have a project in mind but more about that later.

Today I may sew another knitting project bag.  Also I am cutting out some quilt triangles. I would love to start on a sock heel if i have time!

Sock Re-Do

These are some socks I made years ago. I ran out of yarn so started using the light green/white yarn to make it stretch. The socks were toe up. I found them in my knitting bin at my parents and knew that a moth or somebody else had came and went. I decided to rip them out and since they are bright rainbow, make something for little kids to wear. 

 As I began to rip out the socks I found that the pale green yarn was coming apart, I don't know if it was just eaten or just didn't last well. I only saved a small amount of it that still seemed good. I think it was Tofutsies brand, so it has soysilk in it. I'm trying to decide if I will make socks or mittens from it. Yesterday I wound it into big loops, got it wet and let it hang on a hanger to get some of the kinks out of it. It is pretty much dry today and I will wind it into balls.

 We are moving in the next few months (Not sure where yet...) I am trying to slowly sort things through. The last few weeks I have been cutting 6in squares for a denim quilt. I think I am close to having enough of the same types to start the quilt. When I cut up pants I take off buttons, occasionally zippers (To repair my husbands jeans some day, if needed.) I often cut off the tags (I am interested in them)  and If there are good sized patchs I save them to someday make a sort of crazy quilt hopefully. I saved pairs to remove the pockets so I can get 2 more squares from the fabric underneath. It is tedious but hopefully I can get it done soon and throw out the rest of the pants.

More Hats!

 Another hat and I am also working on a purple one in acrylic. This blue one is from some handspun I bought on our honeymoon.

Also some fingerless mitts I finished. I had started the first one probably last year and then  realized I was halfway done, why not just make the 2nd one? I love them and used them primarily for driving to work in the mornings.

Hopefully before too long I will post about our pumpkins and about the wool quilt I finished.

Little hats & general October update

I started knitting short-row hats to keep in my purse/knit at lunch. I have finished two and it's a pretty simple pattern and fun. The first one I did not wrap the shortrows, the second one I did and I prefer the wrapped style. I am making them for kids in my life though I'm not sure yet what size I have made. They will grow into them eventually :0)

Other news (if you can call it news):
- I bought a pumpkin (small and cute)
- I saw a pheasant in our backyard! Wish I could have gotten a picture.
- I am working on the other wool quilt for our bed. I am almost done patching it and then i will post more photos.
- I have done some mending/thinking about altering clothes. Slowly but surely. Modernizing the neckline of a blue and white floral dress that was high-necked buttondown. Trying to reinvent a dress to a shirt.
- I may be a penguin for halloween, but I am not sure yet.
- I have also been trying to cook more & learning about avoiding food allergins. (Dairy, eggs, corn, wheat...)
- I am really hoping my tomatos will keep ripening. I have some inside and others on the vine to catch whatever sun they can.

New stash items!

Just thought I'd share some recently purchased fabric. On the left is a white and light blue/teal print that I'm hoping to make a Sobetto top by Colette Patterns. The black and white Gingham is for Colette's Hazel dress. The kitty fabric I got for free and maybe will go into a future baby quilt. With some tax return money I got an invisible zipper foot, so I am hoping that will make zippers much more easy to put in.

The yarn, hand-dyed by my friend at Bumblebirch... so pretty. It is fingering weight and I am going to look for a perfect project for it. I also just ordered a yarn winder to make center-pulled cakes. I have a swift already, so I will be set!

Still working on the denim quilt. More photos later.
